Time for Theatre?

Summer is the time for theatre on the West Coast with a number of festivals and events taking place throughout the summer.  Take the opportunity to explore the websites of the various companies performing through the summer and take the time to include a show in your travel itinerary.  Among the companies playing this summer are:

  • Gros Morne Theatre Festival which plays at its theatre located at the Shallow Bay Motel in Cow Head at the northern edge of Gros Morne Park.  This company, which is a division of Theatre Newfoundland, is a professional company playing almost every day throughout the summer.  The season ends late in September.  Details of the shows available and the daily schedule can be found on their website www.theatrenewfoundland.com.
  • Stephenville Theatre Festival plays at the Arts and Culture Centre in Stephenville from early July until the end of August.  The festival plays most days during this period and offers an eclectic range of shows.  For full detaisl of the shows and schedule visit their website www.stf.nf.ca.
  • Stage West Theatre Festival is playing several nights a week at the Arts and Culture Centre in Corner Brook through July.  This event features several shows for you to choose from.  For details of the shows and schedule visit  http//:cornerbrookartsandculturecentre.ca.
  • Theatre by the Bay is an amateur company which offers a free outdoor “event”  about the work of James Cook in surveying the west coast of Newfoundland.  It play 2.00 pm and 3.00pm every Monday , Tuesday and Wednesday at the James Cook Memorial high above the city of Corner Brook, weather permitting.  The company also performs a dinner theatre at 7.00pm every Sunday and Monday at the Bay of Islands Yacht Club in Curling.  For reservations call 709 638 3005.
